of the united states because it is martin luther king day. many people have the day off. let's begin with extreme weather. the death toll rising after a flash freeze causes hundreds of crashes across the northeast. this morning we know at least five people are dead. >> near philadelphia more than 50 vehicles collided when light rain fell on to a cold highway and turned into a sheet of ice. >> i started pumping my breaks and just hoping i would stop. >> didn't realize it after we got out it was literally an ice skate out on the main roads. >> drivers in new york experiencing similar problems. >> go that way. go that way. oh my god. lookout. lookout. lookout. >> more than 400 crashes were reported in new jersey at the same time.

>> then there was this. two planes nearly collide at jfk airport in new york. a jetblue flight at full throttle forced to slam on the breaks as it speeds down the runway. the jetblue plane was cleared for takeoff but a caribbean airways flight also crossed the runway without authorization. air traffic controllers ordered the second plane to stop but when the pilot didn't respond the jetblue plane had to quickly abort its departure. they did not respond to control because they were on the wrong frequency. firefighters battling 13 wildfires burning across the state right now. the fuelled flames spreading across 21 acres. homes evacuated rescue crews dumping water on the flames with helicopters. flames from a grass fire began crossing the interstate. one home is totally destroyed.

coincidence. what's the latest? >> the latest right now is ifwe don't know if it was targeting the vice president. he and his wife dr. jill biden wasn't home so no one was hurt. it happened in the vicinity of the vice president's home in delaware on saturday night. shots were fired from a fast involving vehicle around 8:30 p.m. they aren't sure if the shots were aimed at the vice president's home which sits a couple houn yards away from it the main road in wilmington delaware. police examined the home no suspects were found. one man attempted to pass through the security perimeter. he was not charge with anything related to the the shooing. they are not sure if he was targeting the vice president.

officers say they received a report of shots fired in an area nearby later that evening. the bidens were told about the shooting that evening. vice president joe biden scheduled to speak this morning in wilmington for a martin luther king event. it is in the known if he will mention anything about the shooting incident at all. kelly wright thank you very much. republican lawmakers hitting hard against president obama's proposed tax plan ahead of the state of the union. it is not just taxes the president will talk about in tomorrow night's address. doug luzader joins us with what to expect. >> taxes are going to be the center piece. we have a good idea of what the president is going to talk about because white house officials were talking about this over the course of the weekend. a central tenant will be loosen up to 28 percent. the president wants to get rid

of a tax break on certain inheritances and charge a fee for the largest financial firms. that is all on the government revenue side of things. the president wants to spend some of that money on tax breaks including expanding the child care tax credit for some earners up to 3,000 dollars per child. also a new $500 what they are calling a second earner tax credit for couples where both individuals work. it has an income threshold. one thinks it will claw a clear line in the stand with republicans. >> are they going to have everything absolutely not. we should have a debate against middle class economics and trick pell down economics and see what we agree upon. >> a boxed in republican ahead of 2016 forcing them to defend high earners republicans are already lamb basting these ideas. >> it's a nonstarter.

the redskins received outstanding reports from native americans. >> now teenagers dubbed bonnie and clyde were behind bars. we have more on the story. >> they had a far different end in the movie. dalton haze and cheyenne phillips were captured in panama city beach florida after local patrol officers spotted them sleeping in a parking lot in their stolen 2001 silver toyota tundra. they were arrested without incident. the couple will be extradited where haze faces multiple felony charges including taking a minor from her parents. 13-year-old phillips was put into temporary care of department of children and families. she was considered innocent but could face juvenile charges if found to be an accomplice.

secret service on a hunt for suspects after a vehicle was seen speeding from the scene. kelly wright has been following the story all night long. he joins us live in the studio. what's the latest? >> the latest we don't know if the shots were aimed towards the vice president's home. the vice president and his wife were not at home at the time of the shooting. no one was hurt. secret service and lee castle county police are investigating the incident. it happened at the city of the vice president's home in delaware saturday night. shots were fired from a fast moving vehicle passing by. they are not sure if the shots were aimed at the vice president's home which sits a couple hundred yards from the home's perimeter. they found no bullets hit the house. no suspects have been found at this time. while on the scene officers did detain a questionable man who attempted to pass through the
